Jewett School Students Get Hands-on Tips From the US Coast Guard

imageWear a life jacket. That’s what students at a Bucksport school said is the number one thing they learned about water safety.

Members of the U.S. Coast Guard Reserve and the Jewett School teamed up Wednesday to teach that lesson.

It’s part of an education outreach program by the Coast Guard.

First grade students learned about lighthouses, rescue missions, as well as boating safety.

Some even got to drive a Coast Guard boat, with their imaginations of course.

Coast Guard Reserve Member, Cameron Morgan, said, “We give the children an opportunity to see all that, see what we do. And then provide them with some safety education to hopefully bring back to their folks and bring back home and instill in them as well.”

This is the second year this Coast Guard team has visited the Jewett School.
