“There are a lot of options for them, they could be with one person, a family or other dogs,” said Hillary Roberts, Executive Director of the Kennebec Valley Humane Society.
Almost a dozen Chihuahuas were signed, sealed and delivered to Augusta from another animal shelter in the golden state – where shelters usually generate a lot of small dogs. Roberts said, “Because of the amount they have there, they aren’t as easily adopted as they are here in Maine.”
Now all these California dogs are getting ready for their first Maine winter.
“I’m sure they’ll acclimate really well to the New England temperatures, and hopefully find good homes, and have good lives for themselves in in Maine,” said the society’s Exec. Director.
One brother and sister pair have been a big hit at the shelter. Roberts said, “They were very popular and generated a lot of interest in the 2 of them and hopefully their 8 other friends who are here.”
The Chihuahuas aren’t the only pets you can take home. “They’ll also noticed cats and kittens looking for homes that are currently available for adoption.” said Roberts.
Many of the animals here have been spayed or neutered and are ready to find their forever home.
